THE EUCDW WELCOMES THE ANNOUNCED MOFIDICATION OF THE SERVICES DIRECTIVE

Last week, the Commission President Barroso declared: "As the Directive was written, it would not have been successful…. That is the reason why the Commission unanimously accepted to make some changes".

The EUCDW welcomes the announced modification of the Services Directive; special attention has to be given to the effects of the "land of origin" principle.

It will be necessary, that everywhere in Europe high standards will be guaranteed for example in the field of technical safety, of the protection of the consumer, of the protection of the environment, of health services, of services of general interest as well as of health and safety at work.

The European Union of Christian Democratic Workers (EUCDW) consists of 23 workers' organisations from 15 countries and is an association of the European People's Party (EPP).

responsible: Christoph Weisskirchen, Secretary-General.
