End
the oppression of the Cuban Nation
Isolation
of the regime instead of an embargo
against the people
Declaration
of the EUCDW
In view of the increasing oppression suffered by the Cuban nation as
a victim of the communist Castro regime, the European Union of Christian
Democratic Workers (EUCDW), which has never accepted class struggle
and collectivisation and regards them as violating human dignity, declares
the following:
- The sanctions
imposed on Cuba increase the suffering of the nation, particularly
that of the working class, which is why the embargo with regard to
those basic materials and products that are related to health care,
food and energy supply should be lifted or at least modified. The
blockade is unjust - it has a direct effect on the people of Cuba
instead of the Cuban regime and it has proven to be totally ineffective
as a means to lessen the rigidity of the totalitarian system that
governs the island.
- The international
community should actively promote political and diplomatic isolation
of the Castro regime, in order to put such social and political pressure
on those in power that they are forced to abandon their unnecessary
and rigid totalitarianism and by these means give new hope to the
oppressed Cuban nation.
- The EUCDW asks
the nations of Europe to support the peaceful and democratic forces
whose aim is to build up a state governed by law and order and respecting
the human rights. The objective must be to reveal the truth and to
put an end to the deceptive propaganda with which the free nations
are bombarded. This is a central requirement for the possibility that
the conditions which would change Cuba into a welfare state governed
by law and order, a state where human rights are respected and which
would put an end to the painful exile of the Cuban nation, will finally
become a reality.

The
European Union of Christian Democratic Workers (EUCDW) consists of 23
workers' organisations from 15 countries and is an association of the
European People's Party (EPP).
