EUCDW, 13.12.2000 EUCDW welcomes the break-through of the European company statute Criticism on the possibility of opting out EUCDW The European Union of Christian Democratic Workers (EUCDW) welcomes the fact that after years of wrestling a solution for involving workers in the European Company could be found. The European company statute, demanded for a long time by the economy, can now be put into practice. This project improves the business location of Europe and can thus enable more jobs in the long term. The EUCDW considers it indispensable that the workers' rights once fought for should be protected through European law. This is necessary, as Europe needs the approval of all citizens. Furthermore, practice has shown that participation of workers in business decisions brings a profit both for themselves as well as for the business management. Against this background, the EUCDW criticises the fact that the decision now made enables the possibility of "opting out" in certain cases. The EUCDW turns consequently against each policy that wants to create a "Europe à la Carte" when it involves workers' rights. The EUCDW will make a final assessment based on the outstanding decision of the EU Council of Ministers. It urges that the position of the European Parliament must be adhered to: no "forced export" of a certain participation model to another EU member state, but also no possibility of escaping participation where this already exists
The
European Union of Christian Democratic Workers (EUCDW) consists of 23
workers' organisations from 15 countries and is an association of the
European People's Party (EPP).
