Elmar Brok - new President of the EUCDW

Luc Delanghe now honorary president - management team changing

The European Union of Christian Democratic Workers (EUCDW) elected a new president at their recent board meeting: Elmar Brok MEP was unanimously elected as successor to Luc Delanghe, who is giving up his post for reasons of age. The almost 50 board members very much thanked Luc Delanghe for his commitment; they unanimously elected him as honorary president.

As new Vice-president Guido Dumont was promoted into the management team from the Belgian ACW. Christoph Weisskirchen as Secretary-General and his deputy, Tom De Saegher, complete the new team. The former Secretary-General, Alexander von Schwerin, remains a member in the presidency and will introduce there the positions of the European Economic and Social committee.

In his inaugural speech, the new president Elmar Brok again confirmed the meaning of a social Europe. According to him, the agreement of the citizens, the majority of whom are workers, depends on the fact that the rights evolved and the achievements also remain in times of necessary change. Concerning the European People's Party, Brok demanded that they must secure their majority capacity in its structure on a permanent basis by combining the economic competence with the social competence.

The European Union of Christian Democratic Workers (EUCDW) consists of 23 workers' organisations from 15 countries and is an association of the European People's Party (EPP).
