EU-Council agrees in principle
on EU-Constitution

The EUCDW welcomes the decision of the EU-Council - taken by unanimity - to reach an agreement about the EU-Constitution by Mid-June.

The line of the European People's Party has thus been achieved to culminate the European unification process by setting up a political union based on subsidiarity.

The EUCDW acknowledges this as an irreversible step: The European Unification can now only go forwards and no longer backwards.

The EUCDW emphasizes for this reason its demands for further qualitative improvement in a social Europe.

The EUCDW board especially thanks the EPP President, Wilfried Martens as well as the EPP representatives of the EU parliament at the governmental conference, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo MEP and Elmar Brok MEP, for their commitment.

The European Union of Christian Democratic Workers (EUCDW) consists of 23 workers' organisations from 15 countries and is an association of the European People's Party (EPP).
